At Lyell DOC, there are a number of trails that go to the old gold mining remnants. One of these trails also goes to a cemetery. It was quite the uphill walk on the trail. If the trail was all that was here back in the gold mining days, then that would have been an arduous funeral procession!
The graves are on the hillside with wrought iron fences around each separate grave. Some don't have headstones, but the ones that do are mostly women. they were all in the 1800s.
Also included in the photos is one of the camp rooster.
