OBC Day 7-Not the Most Exciting of Days, But Plenty Long

We did a long day today. It ended up being nearly twice the distance we planned to go. There were two good climbs, one of which was on Hwy 140 (yes, that same ol’ hwy). The rest of the day was mostly flat or down. Our plan had been Catnip Reservoir, but we got there before noon, and we wanted to go further anyway to shorten tomorrow. We did eat lunch and filter water…water that tastes like pond scum. It took us over two hours to get all the filtering done. Otherwise, the day was epic in terms of desolation, but somewhat of a boring ride. Here’s some photos.

Last night’s sunset.

Morning shadow photo. We were on the road by 6:45.

Spent another day in the Sheldon.

Hwy 140 goes through the Refuge.

Burro crossing.

Horsey crossing.

Antelope crossing

The one unpaved climb of the day (it was over 4 miles)

Catnip Reservoir

There was even a Cat at Catnip Reservoir!

The only kind of cool land feature today.

IXL Ranch (abandoned)

Leaving the Sheldon for good and…

Crossing back into Oregon.

Last time on our friend, Hwy 140.

Shirk Ranch (also abandoned)

But not tonight!

Camped near the bunk house.

We rode 55.6 miles, and finished the day about 6:30. Not bad considering we spent over 2 hours at Catnip.
