My Jefferson between the rocks.

Crooked River
Keep going up!
Just follow that trail up up up!
The high point of the Misery Ridge Trail
Jen (I really like this photo!)
The descent down the backside was slow going for me. Jen said a little sliding was okay. Ummm…no. No sliding for me!
We came to a rock feature they call “Monkey Face”.
Top of Monkey Face with Mt. Hood in the distance.
Do you see the monkey face? I think it looks more like a gorilla face.
Mesa Verde Trail
Doug doing his best to not get close to the edge.
Soon, the Mesa Verde Trail joined the River Trail.
The Canada Geese family heading downstream.
Waiting for a fish?
We did the River Trail back to the bridge across the Crooked River. Then we hiked back up away from the river back to the camp where we said goodbye to Jen.
Now we won’t see her again until she catches us, somewhere east!

A couple of decades ago, Monkey Face had one of the hardest rock climbs in the US. And Smith Rocks was (and still is, to some extent) a major attraction for rock climbers. Last time I was there, the local schoolkids were cranking hard!
