4B Day 7-A Double Bakery Day!

Before we even left Leavenworth this morning, we stopped at Bakery #1, the actual German bakery (which I have never been to) of Leavenworth.

A use for an old mixer.

I had a custard raspberry thing, and got a pretzel to go. We talked briefly with the owner and head baker. He was born and raised near Cologne, Germany, and moved to the US when he was 35.

After our “2nd breakfast”, we got back on the bike trail on the Chumstick to go to North Rd (the backroad that goes through Peshastin). I’ve been on this road before. It’s very pretty, and the trees are loaded with pears.

We had to get on Hwy 2 for a very short distance before going off again, and working our way back to Hwy 2, where we crossed the Hwy for the third time.

We climbed the backroads to Cashmere.

Nice view from above of Cashmere.

We rode through the downtown on our way to bakery #2, the infamous Anjou Bakery. Curiously, there were more pears on this tree than in the Anjou Bakery (in fact, I didn’t see anything pear there).

Look how loaded this tree is!

At the bakery, I had a Brie (infused with bleu cheese) and roasted tomatoes sandwich on a crusty bread followed by a brownie pie.

Yum!

Years ago, when my son and I did the Washington Parks Loop, we stopped here. It was much smaller, and quite honestly, better (at least they had pear things). Now it’s fancified, and not much variety. But, lunch was tasty enough.

Once again, we had a very short bit on Hwy 2 before taking more backroads to Wenatchee Confluence State Park.

Janet going across the Wenatchee River.

The old wooden bridge.

We didn’t have reservations here, but they have a place where they put cyclists…except, they were doing construction on the sprinkler system and restroom because a pipe had broke. Just like when Kyle and I stayed here, the campground was full, and the park aide told us we would have to go elsewhere. We immediately set her straight on Washington Law regarding cyclists and State Parks. Next we knew, we were paying our $12, and were told to go talk to the ranger who was supervising the work to find out where to set up. We were able to use the group camp area and shelter.

We’re planning to take a day off here instead of the planned day off at Wanapum. We’ve got a plan for how we’ll stay here again tomorrow (even though they say we can only stay one night). I’ll let you know how it goes…
