Before we get to that part of the day, let me fill you in on the earlier part. So, the reason we stayed at Wilderness CG last night was because the map didn’t show any camping on the next 27 mile section. I think I mentioned that in the last post. We headed out of Wilderness at about 6:45. We had met another cyclist last night named Mervyn. This morning we met his buddy, Ben. We would play leapfrog with Ben multiple times today.
It was chilly to start with, but still a beautiful day.
This could be a photo from yesterday. Same road, same time of day, but different river. This is the Lochsa River. Everything was pretty much the same. We still weren’t hardly climbing.
Just a few miles in, I saw what would have been a fine place to camp, but it wouldn’t have made any difference. Then further on I saw another campsite opportunity, then another, and another. In fact, there were possible campsites (even with restrooms, and access to the river for water) all along the whole map panel! If we had known, we could have definitely made it further yesterday, and guaranteed getting to Missoula, possibly even by today! Oh well…as they say, hindsight is 20/20.
There were more of those pack bridges.
This was called Mocus Point.
This was Warm Springs. Just a mile on the other side of the bridge was the Jerry Johnson Hot Spring pools. It was tempting, but when we saw how many people were going over there, we decided against it. Instead, we pulled out our chairs to have some lunch. Who should ride by but Matt and Grace! Unfortunately, they were going further than us for the day, but I’m sure we’ll see them again. As we were talking to them, Matty rode up! Yes!!! The family was back together again! Matty joined us for lunch, and then rode with us to Lochsa Lodge. He had a flat tire, so we all stopped to make sure he got it changed okay.

Matty’s flat fixing’.
We made it to Lochsa Lodge. They allow cyclists to camp behind the little store for $10. They also offer a shower for $10. Since I haven’t had one for two days, AND it came with a big fluffy towel…totally worth the $10!
Today, we saw so many cyclists…more than we’ve seen the entire trip combined!
Just one of many many cyclists.
Tomorrow we do Lolo Pass. Matty will roll out with us, but then, in Missoula, we will say goodbye as he is heading to the Northern Tier.
And, I’m not entirely sure, because I don’t have service, and haven’t since Grangeville, but if all is going as planned, Jen should now be chasing us! If she is, any guesses on where she’ll catch us???
