The next part said “Stay in vehicle”. Hmmm…might be a problem.
The climb started immediately. That was good, because it was chilly again this morning. Warmed up quickly. As soon as it started, the mosquitoes joined us too. Of course, we can’t outride them uphill. Out came my friend, Ben (DEET). Then it was okay. Some of the views along the way.
See the road climbing?
A look back to the Tetons.
A little less than halfway (8 of the 17 mile climb), there was a lodge and convenience store. We reupped our liquids, and had a snack too. Revitalized, we continued the climb. The second half wasn’t really that bad. There was a plateau of sorts for awhile. Made the miles pass by quicker.
Nice views too.
You would think there might be bears somewhere over there, but none that we saw.
A bank of purple flowers.
Just a bit before noon, we made it to the top of Togwotee Pass and our fourth Continental Divide crossing.
Woo Hoo!
We thought we would go down a bit before stopping for lunch, but just after the Pass, there was a sign for Wind Lake picnic area. We turned in there. It was a good thing we did because this is what we saw.
The best lunch spot ever!!! I was eating a tortilla with peanut butter, Nutella, and…3 Oreo cookies.
As we were leaving, we met Trina and Doug. Doug is riding west with Trina sagging for him.
They are from Kentucky.
The ride down was really great. Not only downhill, but with a tailwind. I didn’t touch the brakes!
Cool colors!
We made it to Dubois. There is a cyclist only “hostel” at the Episcopal church. We rolled up there to inquire about staying tonight. Might have been better to go someplace else. There is a group of 18 cyclists from Bike and Build here. They are riding westbound, stopping every five days or so to help with building (Habitat for Humanity, and other organizations). We are all in the “shelter” which is…part of the church??? It’s going to be a pretty crowded night. There are also a few CDT hikers here.

We did our laundry and took showers in town (you can wash your car, your clothes, and your body, all in one place!).
The Bike and Build folks are off to dinner, so best make haste and get dinner ourselves.
