Yes, we were on the Bitterroot Trail all the way from Missoula to Hamilton…49 miles! As bike paths usually go, it wasn’t super fast. There’s lots of cracks and bumps, but it was a whole lot better than riding Hwy 93. We were not spared the noise though, because the trail runs right next to the Hwy.
Crossing the river on a bike path bridge.
Some curious art work on our way out of town.
This bridge goes over a busy road.

As we came into Florence, I thought back to coming into Florence, Oregon where we stopped at MO’s for their famous chowder. Then I saw a sign that said “Glen’s Cafe, Famous for our Pie”. Well…you can bet we had to stop!
Glen’s Cafe. So the pies were originally made by Glen’s mother. Now they are made by the daughter.
Since it was 11:00, we decided to make it lunch (or brunch since I had french toast and bacon, and Doug had pancakes, eggs, and bacon). Then I had the above coconut cream pie, and Doug had cherry pie. Of course it was delicious!
Stuffed full, we continued on the path. It was occasionally up and down, but mostly flat. We went through/by a couple other towns, Stevensville and Victor. Basically, we are traveling south through the Bitterroot Valley. The Bitterroot Mountains are to our right, and the Sapphire Mountains to the left.
We were planning to stay at the fairgrounds in Hamilton (cyclist only camping allowed), but no one answered the phone, so we weren’t sure about restrooms/water. Instead we decided to go to Black Rabbit RV Park. The weather was also looking ominous.
When we got to the RV Park, the office was closed. A guy drove up who lives there and called the manager for us. The manager said they don’t allow tents anymore, but then he said he would let us stay. We were grateful.
It was starting to spit rain, so we set up our tents lickety split! We didn’t do laundry at the KOA…we should have. But, we are doing laundry here, so it’s all good.
The thunderstorm has passed now, and the sun is back out. We’ll have a bit more bike path tomorrow, then we’re on the highway. Actually, while the bike path was great, it was kind of boring after a bit. Doug said to me, “Where did the day go?”
