We left the fire station at about 6:50. Since we were in the eastern time zone, the sun was not up yet.
It’s coming though!
As we made our way along the road, it got lighter and lighter (no duh).
Lighter
Oh, I see it now!
Good morning Day 77!
We turned off the main route in Sonora, about 7 miles into the day’s ride. Now we really had to pay attention to the map, as there weren’t anymore USBR 76 route signs.
There were some Amish farms, and this horse and buggy clip-clopping along the road.
We went through a few towns. Upton even had a Grayson St.
Saw more tobacco, and a drying barn too.
It even smelled like tobacco.
We stopped on an uphill just to take this photo of these horses.
Horses on a hill.
Finally, we passed into Mammoth Cave National Park. Next we had to take a ferry across the Green River.
Make sure you stop!
It’s a very small ferry.
Didn’t even get off the bikes.
It was two miles (almost entirely uphill to the entrance to the Mammoth Cave campground. Thanks to Doug’s Senior Pass, camping was only $12.50 ($6.25 each).
We hurried to set up our tents, and drop our bags so we could go sign up for a cave tour.
Stay tuned for Part 2…
