June 20: Meeting Some Family, and an Unexpected Tour of Fremantle

Cathie had to take her car into the repair shop, so her sister, Marlene, came over to follow her to the shop. Then they were going to go visit their dad who is soon to turn 99. I went with them.

Arthur is quite sharp, and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting him. He has an impressive collection of mementos including a newspaper photo of when baby number 16 was born (Cathie is child number 13). He also had articles from his days as a jockey. He was one of the few soldiers who served in all three campaigns in WWII. I could have listened to his stories all day!

A pretty special guy!

After awhile, we went to get some lunch and go to Coles to get Arthur some more of his favorite sweets (guy after my own heart). We did a bit of a tour of the waterfront in Fremantle, then settled on Cicerellos for lunch.

And the dog is Spud

I heart Freo!

After lunch we started our “Tour d’ Freo”. It could also have been called the “Oh-We-Should-Have-Turned-There!” Tour. Here is our tour in photos.

The lighthouse at the end of the South Mole (like a jetty).

The Maritime Museum (we may go there another day)

A really great photo of Cathie (even though she doesn’t like photos with sunglasses)

The North Mole lighthouse

Pano shot of the water

Cormorant

Jared called as we were headed to Coles (oh yeah, we still had to go there!). Turns out he was at the Coles we were going to, so we picked him up, then went back to Arthur’s.

It was really a great day! There’s so much to do here, and we haven’t even been into Perth yet! We must make a plan!
